Upstream Integration and Strategic Transformation

1985 marked the beginning of vertical integration within the sulfur supply chain. Beyond serving as feedstock for Esseco’s Trecate production facility, sulfur became a tradable commodity, with the company expanding into integrated logistics services for Italian refineries, including:

  • Bulk transportation solutions
  • Storage management
  • Solidification and melting plant operations

Corporate Rebranding and Expansion Strategy

In 1988, the company underwent a strategic repositioning:

  • Rebranded from Esseodue to Esseco (now part of Altair Chemical)
  • Launched an acquisition-driven growth strategy beyond its Trecate headquarters

Key 1988 Milestones:

  • Majority stake acquisitionin Ever Srl (Treviso-based) – strengthening Esseco’s position in oenological chemicals and enology services
    • New finished goods storage terminal in Borgolavezzaro (NO) to enhance distribution capabilities
    • Sulfur storage hub in Macchiareddu (CA), later equipped with dedicated sulfur grinding facilities for Zolfindustria
    • Formation of Svecodue – a joint venture specializing in leather tanning chemicals
